Well, at least this one didn’t go four overtimes.

The Beavers made it close at the end but Stanford swept the Pacific-12 Conference series with an 87-82 road loss on Thursday.

The Beavers (15-11, 5-9) were outrebounded 36-24 and 13-7 on the offensive boards.

That led to a 19-8 second chance advantage for the Cardinal.

“It isn’t like we don’t work on boxing out and keeping our men off the boards,” OSU coach Craig Robinson said.
“You have to have a mental toughness to play this game in this league and we’ve got to have some much more mentally tough play more often.”

That meant the Beavers could not outscore the Cardinal.

Stanford was 27-51 from the field, hit 12 of 22 3-pointers and was 21-32 from the line.

The Beavers were 26-56 from the field, hit 11 of 24 3s and 19-27 free throws.

The Beavers did force 19 turnovers but did not take full advantage with 19 points.

Jared Cunningham finished with 22 points, but it was a missed dunk with one minute, 54 seconds left that would have brought the Beavers within 75-71.

Cunningham stole the ball and dunked but the ball bounced off him and back out.

The officials ruled no basket.

“It hit my shoulder,” Cunningham said. “When it went through the basket, the ball hit my shoulder when it went through. It was disappointing that it came back out. The refs said it didn’t go all the way through.”

Roberto Nelson had 19 points, 15 in the first half.
